Forms & Styles are intended to preserve the lineage of a particular style's branch, and are often taught to advanced students selected for that purpose. Many consider forms to be one of the most important practices in Kung Fu. They gradually build up a practitioner's flexibility, internal and external strength, speed and stamina, and teach balance and coordination.

Many styles contain forms that use weapons of various lengths and types, using one or two hands. Some styles focus on a certain type of weapon. Forms are meant to be both practical, usable, and applicable as well as promoting flow, meditation, flexibility, balance, and coordination.

Weapons Training s generally carried out after the student is capable in the basics, forms and applications training. The basic theory is to consider the weapon as an extension of the body.

The process of weapon training proceeds with forms, with partners and then applications. Depending on your progress, your Master will give you a choice of weapons to learn, most common are Bo Staff or Broad Sword.

Kung Fu Style Description

Begin the journey that will lead to a better mind, body, and soul.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (10)Shaolin Kung Fu is considered to be the oldest martial arts in the world and the root of all modern styles.

The term “Kung Fu” does not technically mean Chinese martial arts, but rather “skill or ability to do something”. It is for this reason Shaolin Kung Fu is the most physically demanding martial arts today.

It is believed that around the 5th/6th century AD, the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma created the art to help his students concentrate during meditation.

There are literally hundreds of styles of Kung Fu and the most popular Chinese Martial Art in the world. With deep traditions and philosophy; it will develop not just your whole body, but the soul and mind as well.

Training involves fighting with weapons, meditations and studying and mimicking different fighting styles.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (11)Sun Style, - Tai-Chi, -Bagua, -Xingyi Sun Style consists of the 3 major internal martial arts of China, TaiJi, XingYi and Bagua and was created by Sun Lu Tang (1861-1933). Sun Lu Tang first mastered the arts of XingYi Quan and Bagua Zhang and a long with his study of Wu Yu Xiang TaiJi under Hao Wei Zhen, master Sun Lu Tang developed an extremely sophisticated yet practical synthesis: Sun Style TaiJi Quan.

Recognizing the principles of XingYi, Bagua and Tai Chi as fundamentally the same, Sun Lu Tang was one of the first masters to begin referring to these arts as being "one family" and it is due to him that the 3 styles are customarily referred to as "internal" styles to this day.

Sun Style Taiji is unique in many ways with its inclusion of Bagua footwork, XingYi's hand and waist movements, and most famously the stance 'San Ti Shi'. Sun TaiJi is well known for its smooth & flowing movements, which omit the more physically vigorous crouching, leaping, and deep stances of other styles of Tai Chi.

The footwork of Sun style is deceptively simple looking, but very practical when one foot advances or retreats the other follows. It also uses an open palm throughout the entirety of its main form, and exhibits small circular movements with the hand. Gentle postures and high stances make it very suitable for geriatric exercise and martial arts therapy. Last, but most importantly Sun TaiJi is practiced exactly how it is to be applied in a fight.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (12)Sanda/Sanshou Sanda/Sanshou, an "unsanctioned fight" is a Chinese self-defense system and combat sport.

Sanshou is a martial art which was originally developed by the Chinese military based upon the study and practices of traditional Kung fu and modern combat fighting techniques; it combines full-contact kickboxing, which include close range and rapid successive punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps, kick catches, and in some competitions, even elbow and knee strikes.

Not seen as a style itself, rather it is considered as just one of the two components of Chinese martial arts training and is often taught alongside with taolu (forms) training. However, as part of the development of sport wushu by the Chinese government, a standard curriculum for sanshou was developed. It is to this standard curriculum that the term "Sanshou" is usually applied.

Before Sanshou was made into a sport their used to be bare handed fights with no rules, this was common in the military between soldiers to test & practice martial skills, ability & techniques.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (13)Wushu is an important component of the cultural heritage of China, literally translated, "wu" is military, "shu" is art.

Previously, wushu figured significantly in the simple matter of survival through China's many wars and political upheaval. Today, wushu has been organized and systematized into a formal branch of study in the performance arts by the Chinese.

It reigns as the most popular national sport in the country of 1.1 billion people, practiced by the young and old alike. Its emphasis has shifted from combat to performance, and it is practiced for its method of achieving heath, self-defense skills, mental discipline, recreational pursuit and competition.

Wushu is both an exhibition and full-contact sport derived from traditional Chinese martial arts. Created in the Peoples Republic of China after 1949, Wushu has spread globally through the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), which holds the World Wushu Championships every 2 years.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (14)Baji Quan "Eight Extremes Fist". It features explosive, short-range power and is famous for its elbow strikes and shocking power it develops.

The essence of Baji Quan lies in Jin (Power). Most of Baji Quan's moves utilise a one hit push strike from a very close distance. The bulk of the damage is dealt through the momentary acceleration that travels up from the waist to the limb & further magnified by the charging step. Jin has many forms and is developed through many years of practice and horse stance.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (15)Pigua Zhang or chop-hanging palm due to its emphasis on palm techniques is often practised along with Baji quan and features explosive, long-range power.

It originated in Hebei Province of North China, but today is also well known in other places. Pigua's power is from the acceleration force of the arms, which are often in rotation. The hip movement in Pigua is more subtle and gentle compared to Baji quan because you only need enough to guide the big chops whereas in Baji quan, the hammer punches, elbows and swings rely completely on the quick and powerful rotation of the hips and sink to bring its power out.

There is a Chinese martial arts proverb that goes: When Pigua is added to Baji, gods and demons will all be terrified. When Baji is added to Pigua, heroes will sigh knowing they are no match against it.

Styles | Kung Fu Bootcamp (16)Wing Chun is a very unique and effective martial art, made popular in the West By Bruce Lee, it is the only martial art created and by a woman. Ng Mui, is said to have been one of the legendary Five Elders — survivors of the destruction of the Shaolin Temple by the Qing Dynasty.

Ng Mui, realized that most of the techniques in Shaolin Kung Fu were useless for a small woman to use against a larger, stronger man. She also realized that a woman could not match a man's stamina in a long fight. With this in mind, she developed a system of fighting that enabled a smaller, weaker person such as herself to destroy a bigger, stronger person within a few seconds..

A Wing Chun student will defend and attack simultaneously. Wing Chun students also do not draw back before striking; instead, they strike from any position. This method both increases the speed and eliminates the telegraphing of the strike. In this way, in the time it takes a karate student to throw one or two punches, a Wing Chun student will throw at least nine.
